Data driven decision-making at Deutsche Bahn

Improving passenger comfort at railway stations is a central issue worldwide. As part of an innovation project, Deutsche Bahn is testing the digital signage solution "Intelligente Bahnsteigkante" at the Bad Cannstatt S-Bahn station in Stuttgart. ASE investigated the effect of this solution on passenger flows. Are railway customers waiting on the platform at the displayed positions of the train doors? Are the passengers better distributed on the platform due to the capacity displays? Does the solution increase the efficiency of boarding and alighting?

ASE's Pedestrian Analytics System was used to analyze the movements of all rail customers before, during and after each train arrival. Based on the measurements the effects of the solution and potential for improvement could be identified.

This supports Deutsche Bahn in their fact-based decision-making process for future investments.
