How is working from home changing mobility behavior in Switzerland? The world of work is becoming increasingly flexible. Working from home is becoming the norm, eliminating the need to travel to work. Providers of public transportation are asking themselves how the demand for mobility will develop in the longer term due to all the changes. This is the only way to make strategic decisions on investment and operation. As part of a research project for the federal government, ASE is calculating the effects of the new home office habits on Swiss mobility behavior.

Working from home eliminates old travel routes and creates new ones. The natural logic of choosing where to live, where to work and where to shop is being called into question. Do you really have to live close to work? How important is shopping when you can pick up goods at home during the day? This phenomenon has a direct influence on the distances traveled by public transport and all other means of transport. In a study, ASE objectifies and quantifies the consequences of working from home on Swiss mobility behavior. Together with the recorded counting data, a comprehensive data basis is created. Based on this data, decision-makers can anticipate the new need for mobility.
