Improving passenger comfort at train stations is a key issue worldwide. As part of an innovation project, Deutsche Bahn is testing the digital signage solution "Intelligent Platform Edge" at the Bad Cannstatt S-Bahn station in Stuttgart. ASE investigated the effect of this solution on passenger flows. Do train customers wait at the displayed train doors on the platform? Are passengers better distributed on the platform due to the occupancy displays? Does the solution increase the efficiency of boarding and alighting?

With the help of ASE's Pedestrian Analytics System, the movements of all rail customers were analyzed before, during and after each train arrival. This enabled the impact of the solution and potential for improvement to be identified.

This gave Deutsche Bahn a fact-based decision-making basis for future investments.
