ASE's AI-based solutions help Lucerne and other regions to efficiently manage visitor flows and avoid congestion
Great contribution from RTS - Radio Télévision Suisse about the challenges in Swiss tourism and how the City of Lucerne uses the ASE solution to measure visitor frequency!
In 2023, the number of tourists in Switzerland reached new record highs. According to the latest statistics from the Federal Statistical Office FSO the number of overnight stays increased by 15% in the first six months of the year compared to the previous year. However, the high number of visitors is leading to considerable challenges in the affected regions. Popular tourist regions such as Lucerne, Graubünden and the Bernese Oberland have been particularly hard hit, as they are extremely popular with both international and domestic tourists.
The high number of visitors leads to overcrowding on the roads, at tourist attractions and on public transport, which has a significant impact on the daily lives of residents. ASE provides authorities and tourism associations with a solution for holistic capacity management to control the flow of visitors. The system, consisting of various sensors and AI-based data processing, enables proactive control of the flow of people. This allows capacity utilization to be quantified and predicted. The article reports on people counting on the beautiful Chapel Bridge with Xovis. Xovis.
Many thanks to the Silvia Muff and the entire team of the City of Lucerne for the great cooperation!
