Visitor numbers in Zofingen’s old town: Precise insights thanks to the ASE measurement system

Zofingen’s old town, with its picturesque buildings and narrow streets, is a lively meeting place for residents and visitors alike. The city wants to maintain ith high quality of life and enhance its appeal as a tourist destination in the future. This should be achieved in line with the needs of the various users and interest groups. ASE was commissioned to carry out measurements in order to establish a reliable data basis. Data is collected at Niklaus-Thut-Platz, Kirchplatz, and old Postplatz. This provides the municipality with a complete overview of the use of public space.

The count is completely anonymous and complies with the Federal Act on Data Protection. No personal data is stored or processed. The system only measures movement flows and vehicle frequencies without identifying individual persons.

The data shows daily numbers of people and vehicles as well as their distribution over time. The analysis of parking space occupancy is particulary valuable, as its provides information about the utilization of parking space. Since cars are still allowed to drive in the old town of Zofingen, at least in some areas, the municipality relies on reliable data to optimally manage traffic and urban development. The impact of construction sites or events can also be assessed on the basis of facts.

For local businesses, the measurement data provides important information on visitor frequencies and ideal times for activities or events. At the same time, the municipality benefits from an objective basis for new mobility concepts and infrastructure projects.
